Studies have shown that the effects of UV radiation are cumulative and may increase the chance of developing eye problems later in life, including cataracts, and age –related macular degeneration, two leading causes of reduced vision in the United States. Everyone, especially those who spend extended time in the sun, is at risk from sun damage. You’ve probably noticed that sunlight not only reaches your eyes from the sky but from the reflection on the ground. Ever walked out of a movie theater into a huge parking lot and not been able to completely open your eyes? That’s because the suns rays are kicking off the concrete (especially with or light gray) and right into your eyes! Methods of ProtectionThe number one way to protect your eyes is to stay out of bright sunlight. As this is not really a viable option for most people you should always have eye protection when you’re outside. There are inexpensive, easy ways to protect your eyes, most common perhaps is wearing a brimmed hat. This can include a baseball cap, gardening hat, safari hat, cowboy hat or any hat that suits your style and taste. Second, wear sunglasses. If you can’t afford RayBans choose a pair that you like, even cheap sunglasses offer some protection. A good rule is the bigger the better! Large framed sunglasses offer both protection to the eyes themselves and they keep you from squinting, which causes lines around the eyes. Some manufacturers of contact lenses now make lenses with UV blockers that work in conjunction with sunglasses for added protection from the sun. The sun is the most beneficial natural resource we have but it can
also be the most damaging if we don’t take care. Always use eye
protection of some form when outdoors! This week's top selling items: |
