Helpful tips
SWIMSUIT season is upon us again, much to the chagrin of women of all
shapes and sizes, save for the very few supermodel types that look Bo
Derek "10" in practically anything. But don't despair. Swimwear
hunting need not be traumatic.
By following this simple guide, you can learn how to highlight what
you love about your figure and how to disguise the parts you hate. You'll
also feel more confident knowing that you chose the right suit for your
body type.
1. Fit is the most important consideration. Your clothing size will
not necessarily be the same as your swimsuit size. So, it's best to
focus on how the suit looks and feels on your body, not on the number
on the tag.
Here are some helpful fit-tips:
Straps. Swimsuit straps should lie comfortably on your shoulders. Make
sure they do not dig in. If they do, try a bigger size. If they fall
off, go one size down.
When trying on the suit, move around to see if the straps stay on.
Body.
* If you opt for a one-piece, remember that the torso portion should
stay perfectly flat and conform to the shape of your body and spine.
* Make sure the seams don't pucker; there should be no pulling on the
busts, straps and crotch.
Bust.
* When choosing a top, lift your arms to ensure that you have enough
coverage and the bra does not move up.
* Adjustable straps are best so you'll feel comfortable and secure.
* If you choose a top with underwire or built-in cups, make sure they
fit as well as your bra. It should provide enough support and coverage
without pressing on your breasts.
Leg openings.
* The leg opening and waistband should never pucker or dig into your
skin. If it does, go a size up.
* If you need more coverage, pick another style, not a bigger size.
* Always check out your rear view to make sure you have enough coverage.
* The most flattering leg height or opening is one-inch below the top
of the hipbone. Start with that and experiment with other styles.
